Ensigns History
In 1960 Pearson Yachts introduced the Carl Alberg designed Electra.
The Electra was a 22.5 foot full keel sloop with a weekender cabin capable
of sleeping "4".
Upon discovery of how fast her hull was, Pearson introduced a fractional
rig cuddy version of the Electra and thus the Ensign was born in 1962.
Ensigns were in production in Bristol, RI till 1982 and a total of 1776
were built. Originally it was offered with mahogany bright work, bulkhead
and seats. As the popularity of the boat increased it was offered with
teak as an option. In its last years of production it was only offered
in teak.
Ensign Spars, in Florida, has started production on brand new Ensigns.
